In line with the implementation of the agricultural development plan in the western foothills of the Zagros known as the “tropical plan”, a speculative program was carried out to determine the area and propose the boundaries of Khalil Hill.

According to jahanegardesh, quoting from the public relations of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Research Institute, Zabih… Bakhtiari, the head of the archeology board, announced this news and added: Khalil hill is located at the intersection of the two plains of Zahab and Sarpol Zahab (southern Zahab), among the agricultural lands of Zarin Jub village. Is.

He clarified: This historical work – a culture with a size and extent of about four hectares, today is placed in the form of a low but wide ridge in the middle of agricultural lands, whose surface and margins are cultivated by the farmers of the region.

This archaeologist added: Based on the permission of the Research Institute of Cultural Heritage and Tourism, the field activity of this program was started, and after 25 days of field activity, 20 boreholes were created on the edge of Khalil hill in the area of the area and the sanctuary of the work.

Bakhtiari pointed out that the boreholes were created mostly at a distance of about 5 meters from the last slope of the hill and the place where it joins the marginal lands. it was noticed.

He stated: The results of the exploration of all the boreholes created, both on the edge of the hill and at a distance from the last slope, as well as the boreholes created within the outer area of the site, were negative and did not reveal any traces or evidence of the cultural layer of the site.

The head of the archeology board said that the results of the boreholes exploration show that the remains of cultural artifacts were formed on the surface of a natural mound and the cultural layers were not continued on the edge of the hill and he stated: After the exploration of the arable surface accumulation, in most of the boreholes silty-clay sedimentary deposits were obtained. Natural sedimentary processes were found to be devoid of cultural artifacts and evidence.

She pointed out: The pieces of pottery and cultural materials obtained from the exploration of boreholes are mainly related to the surface and arable layers and in some cases in the subsurface layer in the form of water washed and sedimented.

This archaeologist pointed out that during the past years (2017), the project of passing water pipes (Tropical project) was implemented on the level of the northwest ridge of Khalil hill and the northwest half of the area was destroyed and excavated by machines, and stated: Most of the cultural material distribution And the clay pieces visible on the surface of the site, especially the northwest ridge, are the result of encroachments and occupations in the site and the complete destruction of cultural layers.

He said: Based on the results of the speculation on the edge of the northwest ridge and considering the route of the water transfer pipe as well as the cultural materials scattered on the surface of the area, the cultural layers of the northwest ridge were not very extensive and were severely destroyed and completely destroyed during the implementation of the tropical project. It is demolished.

In the end, Bakhtiari stated: Based on the study of the cultural materials collected from the surface of the site and the results of the exploration of the boreholes, the cultural layers of Khalil Hill represent the modern Ubaid and Uruk cultures with the characteristics of engraved pea pottery and bowls with a curved edge.
